Notary Records for Buriasco
Located a few miles east of Pinerolo, the Buriasco community occupies slightly less than 6 square miles and is home to 1,410 people (2016).
Unlike most other Waldensian communities that were located in the foothills and mountains, Buriasco is located on the plain. This had the advantage making life easier for farming but unfortunately put the Waldensians closer to their Catholic neighbors. They were frequently driven from their homes to seek refuge in the mountains. Buriasco came under the influence of Pinerolo, the nearest town of any size. Pinerolo was predominately Catholic and often was the target of political battles between France and the Duke of Savoy. As a result of these power struggles, Buriasco was sacked and burned by French troops in 1592.
